Classroom Policies

Communication- Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns. E-mail is the best way to reach me. Our mornings are very hectic so coming in with your child to speak with me is not the best time for the students or me; however, I am usually available after school. I will send out a weekly email updating you on what will be happening in our classroom for the week. Homework- It is very important for your child to be reading every night. Please make sure to have them read for at least 10 minutes every evening. They can even log-in to Raz-Kids to complete their nightly reading. I do not send home books from the classroom unless specifically arranged. Your child will have ten spelling words a week. They will need to learn how to read and spell these words. There will be a spelling quiz every Friday. Practicing their spelling words CAN count towards their reading time. I will be sending home Math workbooks at the beginning of the school year for homework. I will send weekly homework planning sheets that will specify math pages to complete that week. Birthdays-I will recognize each child’s birthday during the school year with a special birthday pencil. They will get to wear a fun birthday hat and have their chair decorated! If you would like to provide a birthday surprise for your child and his/her classmates, birthday surprises need to be non-food items; i.e. pencils, stickers, etc. (See Student Handbook) Snacks- We will have a time for two small snacks during our day. Please provide a healthy snack for your child. We do a lot of learning in second grade, so a healthy snack is needed fuel! Since our carpets are brand new, we are asking that you limit snacks to dry, easy to eat items. Please refrain from sending in snacks that require a spoon or could spill/stain the carpet. Thanks for your help in keeping our school looking great! Toys-Toys can be a real distraction and interfere with learning. Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school. It is okay for your child to bring in balls to play with during second recess only. Water Bottle- It is recommended that each child bring in a water bottle to school. Please clearly label the bottle with your child’s name. ONLY WATER IS ALLOWED!
