We will also work on fiction and non-fiction text. In 3rd grade we focus on a variety of genres including poetry, and narratives.

Writing We will be looking at the different genres and practicing them in writing. The genres include descriptive, narrative, expository, poetry and opinion. Sentence structure, grammar, organization, and conventions is our focus as well. Student will write in a journal and publish some writing.

Math Our Math Curriculum is Math in Focus, Singapore Math. Math this year will begin with place value and move into multiplication and division. Fractions, geometric relationships, time, and data will also be addressed.

Science We study solids, liquids and gases by heating and cooling to create a new state, life cycles, and breaking down rocks/minerals makeup the Science Curriculum. Creating and participating in science experiments allows students to critically think, understand science and develop a sense of inquiry.

Social Studies Civics includes communities (class, school, town) and branches of government. Influential people within the communities will allow students to connect to people in their lives. Geography will look at land forms, states, countries and continent and tie in with our rocks and minerals in science. Students will also participate in Market Day for Economics.

Classroom Policies and Procedures
We will be creating a set of our own classroom rules and procedures as a class. However, our classroom will be a safe, inclusive environment that focuses on learning together and collaboration. Students will respect one another and their teachers. Students not following our procedures will clip down on our clip chart, if clipped down twice students will fill out a "think sheet" in order to restore their place back into the activity that the class is participating in. Students can also clip up and earn rewards such as the "wow board!".
